Feature request: display donator's country (important for taxes)

Dear Pledgie,

I'd like to request the ability to see in which country a donator lives. This information is typically included in a Paypal transaction, but not in Paypal transactions coming Pledgie. Nor can this information be obtained from the Pledgie website.

This is important because in my country (The Netherlands), different taxing rules apply depending on whether income comes from outside the European Union or inside the European Union. If we cannot determine where a donator lives then we are required by law to assume the worst case, i.e. that he lives in the EU.

If we can determine where donators live, then we can potentially save hundreds of euros (= hundreds of dollars) in taxes. Please consider implementing this feature.

    Hi Hongli,

Are you sure you don't get the residence country information from PayPal? Because we do, and any information we receive should also be available via PayPal directly. As I understand it, they aren't going to disclose information to us that is not already visible to the payer or the payee.

For example, I see in our DB an entry:

    Residence country : AU

So either way, we have the info and we could expose it to the campaign owner, we just have to decide in where we want to present it. I'll talk this over with Mark, and put it on our TODO list.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, I am sure that we don't get the residence country information from Paypal. If you can somehow make sure that the Paypal transactions include this information then that would be great.

We currently have a parser script which parses all the Paypal confirmation emails, and reports the total amount of money received from each country. We then use this information to calculate our taxes. It's the total amount of money grouped by country that we care about, so it would be fine too if you can display this information in the web application.

It would really help us if this feature can be implemented in the short term (i.e. within a few weeks) because we plan on starting a new Pledgie campaign in the near future.

    Hi Hongli,

This should be implemented by the time you're ready to start a new campaign.

    We've recently started a campaign: http://www.pledgie.com/campaigns/2975

Has the feature been implemented yet? I don't think I see any country information in the donors list.
